Riverstone Real Estate
Riverstone is one of Australia’s oldest towns, established 48 kilometres northwest of Sydney’s CBD more than 200 years ago. The area was actually first named Riverston Farm, but curiously, an ‘e’ was added on 1860s train timetables as a misprint, and the spelling stuck. Whatever you want to call it, Riverstone remains a quiet suburb with a great community spirit, with great shopping nearby and a direct rail line to the city.
The area known today as Riverstone started out as a government stock farm in 1803. Years of near-famine in the colony had forced settlers to push inland for better farming land, and Riverstone’s good grazing land and plentiful water made it a fine choice. Non-rural development in the area only truly began after the construction of the Sydney to Richmond railway line in 1864. This meant that farmers didn’t have to drive cattle overland to ship them at the Hawkesbury River, opening up the land to housing and civic construction.
